The endangered rare native blue duck – the whio, is hatching in record numbers in Taranaki.

Taranaki Mounga – a NEXT environmental investment that is restoring the biodiversity to the mountain and surrounding areas, has recorded its highest number ever of whio ducklings – 87 in total.

That is huge increase from the previous year and has been monitored by the Department of Conservation – who surveyed eight rivers.

Here’s the story from Taranaki Mounga.
