NEXT environmental initiative Rotoroa Island has been praised by visiting filmmaker and conservationist Philippe Cousteau as being at “the vanguard of conservation”. Cousteau – grandson of environmental icon Jacques Cousteau – was visiting the island to film a programme for Xploration Station.

Rotoroa Island is a Predator Free Wildlife Sanctuary and Conservation Park in the Hauraki Gulf, operating under
a unique partnership between Auckland Zoo and the Rotoroa Island Trust. The efforts to restore the biodiversity to the island caught Cousteau’s attention.
