Rotoroa Island has a history of restoration.

Initially it served as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre under its owners The Salvation Army.

For the past ten years The Rotoroa Island Trust, through NEXT, has redeveloped it to become a wildlife sanctuary and public conservation park.

Now in the post Covid-19 era it plans to welcome New Zealanders to enjoy the sanctuary to rejuvenate from the stresses of the pandemic.
