NEXT supported environmental project Zero Invasive Predators has received funding to develop a backcountry detection camera to help track rats stoats and possums that are decimating the birdlife in New Zealand.

The funding was announced this week as part of the Provincial Growth Fund. As this ZIP video explains, the camera uses thermal imaging and AI to detect the predators – and the funding will enable completion of the camera’s entire development cycle including prototyping, field testing and supply.
